Herpes Esophagitis
69 year-old man with multiple myeloma, who complained of odynophagia (pain with swallowing) and dysphagia (difficulty with swallowing). Endoscopy revealed esophageal inflammation, with multiple superficial ulcerations. Cytologic exam of mucosal brushings demonstrated evidence of herpesvirus.

Herpetic ulcers in the esophagus of a 31 year old man with AIDS who presented with odynophagia and dysphagia. Symptoms responded to antiviral therapy.

Ulcerated inflammatory process in a 49 year-old woman receiving chronic corticosteroid therapy for systemic lupus erythematosis. Presenting symptoms were dysphagia and odynophagia.
