Gastric Abscess
Incidental finding in the gastric cardia of a 72 year-old woman undergoing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement. The patient was undergoing workup of a cystic splenic lesion with a differential diagnosis of hematoma vs. abscess vs. cyst. At initial inspection (left), the lesion appeared polypoid with a focus of purulence, which proved to be a plug. Drainage was induced (center) by applying suction to the plug, with an ensuing outpouring of copious purulent material (right).
