Penetrating Ulcer


72 year-old woman with hematemesis (vomiting blood) and melena (black, tarry stools). Endoscopy revealed this large gastric ulcer, shown here at retroflexion, which was penetrating into the liver.

53 year-old man with hematemesis, melena and severe anemia. Endoscopy revealed a rather deep gastric ulcer, with a prominent visible vessel which bled intermittently. Bleeding could not be controlled endoscopically. At surgery, the ulcer was found to be penetrating into the pancreas.
